Leonard Shutzberg is the Chief Executive Officer of Americo Manufacturing Company. Shutzberg joined Americo in February, 2000, as its Chief Financial Officer and was appointed to the CEO position in November of that year. He has over 35 years of experience in managing and operating businesses in a variety of industries.
Shutzberg received his B.S.B.A. from The Ohio State University in 1982 with a double major in Accounting and Computer Information Sciences. He began his career as an accountant with Touche Ross in Dallas, TX.
He moved to Atlanta to work as a business manager and consultant in the entertainment industry. Shutzberg worked for rock bands and concert promoters, touring with some of the biggest names in the industry, including ZZ Top, Journey, Van Halen, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith.
Shutzberg left the entertainment business in 1990 to serve as Chief Financial Officer for The Software Factory, a company later bought out by private equity. It was at this company where he began to develop an expertise in the manufacturing industry.
In 1993, Shutzberg accepted a CFO/COO position with LABS, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of horticultural products, where he spent the next seven years managing and growing the business from $3.5 million/year in annual sales to just over $22 million/year. He left the company in February, 2000 to join Americo Manufacturing Company.
When Shutzberg started with Americo, the business faced significant management and financial challenges. Shutzberg and his team developed a triage plan, engineering a successful business turnaround within 18 months. The company grew organically and also acquired six businesses, building a second factory in 2010, located in Cartersville, Georgia, just minutes from their corporate headquarters.
At the end of 2017, Shutzberg led a process to bring on private equity capital, embracing a vision to enhance the trajectory of growth for Americo Manufacturing Company. Blue Sage Capital, based in Austin, TX, became a majority equity partner in the company, while Shutzberg continues to manage the business in his CEO role.
Americo is now one of the leading manufacturers of high loft, textile nonwovens in the world, maintaining either a 1st or 2nd position in the markets they compete globally. Their products are sold in over 70 countries worldwide; annual sales volume has quadrupled since Shutzberg joined the company in 2000.
Shutzberg is married to Marianne Rones Shutzberg, a Chartered Financial Analyst and bond trader for one of the top investment counseling firms in Georgia. Marianne’s father, James Rones, began Americo Manufacturing Company in 1969. He and Marianne have three children, all navigating various stages of college and professional careers.
